Family caregivers

You are already caring for a loved one. You can be paid for it.

Nebraska’s Medicaid home and community based services waivers allow many relatives to be hired and paid as the caregiver. A-Life is an approved provider, so where the State approves it we can put you on payroll to do what you are doing now for nothing.

Three questions. We will tell you honestly either way.

Paid, on a real payroll

Not a stipend or a reimbursement. You are employed, with hours, pay and a payslip, doing the caring you already do.

We train and certify you free

Our caregiver certification, including First Aid and CPR, costs you nothing. No experience needed to start.

They keep the person they trust

The hardest part of home care is a stranger in the house. There is no stranger — it is you, which is why this arrangement works so well.

We do the Medicaid side

The waiver application, the authorisation, the timesheets, the billing. Your job is the care, not the paperwork — though the approval itself is the State’s decision, not ours.

What happens after you get in touch

1

A conversation, not a sales call

Ten minutes on the phone. What is going on, who needs help, how urgent it is. If we are not the right answer we will say so.

2

A free visit at home

We come to the house, meet them, walk the rooms and write a plan. Nothing is charged for this and nothing is signed on the day.

3

Care starts

Usually within a few days. You meet the caregiver first, and if the fit is wrong we change it.

What people ask before they call

Who exactly can be paid?
Many relatives can be hired and paid — adult children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews and others. Under Nebraska’s rules a spouse cannot be paid as the provider, and neither can a parent or guardian of a child under 19. Tell us the relationship and we will check it against the current rules before you get your hopes up.
How much does it pay?
An hourly wage for approved hours, and the number of hours depends on the assessed need. We will give you a real figure once we know what has been approved.
What if they are not on Medicaid yet?
Then that is the first step and we will help with it. It is not instant, and we will not pretend otherwise — but it is the route to getting you paid.
Do I have to give up my other job?
No. Many caregivers do this alongside other work; the hours are built around the care that is actually needed.

What we can and cannot promise

A-Life Home Health Care is an approved Nebraska Medicaid provider. We are not Nebraska DHHS and we do not decide who qualifies. Medicaid eligibility, eligibility for a home and community based services waiver, the level of care assessment, the number of hours authorised, and who may be paid as a caregiver are all determined by the State of Nebraska.

  • We will help you apply and tell you honestly what we think is likely — but we cannot guarantee that you or your relative will be approved.
  • We cannot guarantee any particular number of hours, or that a specific person will be approved as a paid caregiver.
  • Under current Nebraska rules a spouse cannot be paid as the provider, and neither can a parent or guardian of a child under 19.
  • Waiver places are limited and a waiting list is possible. Programme rules, funding and rates can change.
  • Nothing on this site is legal, tax or benefits advice. For the official position, contact Nebraska DHHS on 1-800-430-3244 or visit dhhs.ne.gov.
